Westelcom Joins Fight with AG Against Child Pornography

Westelcom Communications announced today that it has joined the fight against Child Pornography with the New York Attorney General  (AG) Andrew Cuomo.  Westelcom has committed to preventing the use of their systems for the trafficking of child pornography and has signed an agreement with the AG setting forth the significant steps to anticipate and prevent the use of its services in such manner.

Westelcom shall create and use a hash-value library to automatically match, filter, and block and/or remove child pornography from all newsgroups made available to Westelcom customers, in addition to other steps to ensure the safety of children.

Westelcom shall enter into an understanding with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to receive regularly the list of websites in which child pornography is present and Westelcom will use that list to remove the content if located on its servers, or to block the websites if located on another website.

All complaints relating to child pornography will be investigated promptly and will be reported to NCMEC via the Congressionally mandated NCMEC web-based reporting tool, the Cybertipline.  Westelcom shall retain all dynamic IP logs in connection with the complaints it receives relating to child pornography and any information reported to NCMEC for a minimum period of twelve (12) months.

Krista Jock Boule, Director of Marketing for Westelcom, stated, “The fight against child pornography has strengthened considerably with the advent of this program.  We are proud to join forces with the NY Attorney General to combat the exploitation and degradation of children via the Internet.  Anything we can do to help make our North Country children safe  is a priority to us.”
