The Westelcom
Companies, your local communications and technology provider, has
worked closely with the Development Authority of the North Country (DANC),
and the Northern New York Advanced Telecom Alliance (NNYATA), to bring
voice communication over the existing ATM network.
Originally
only designed for high-speed data transfer, Westelcom has recently
been able to also send voice communication over Northern New York’s
ATM network. This additional service will add further value to the network
and savings for participating businesses.
Westelcom is looking forward to helping community members and
organizations, including those focusing on economic development, get
technologically advanced services that might otherwise be out of reach
to these groups.
“The
project and contractual relationship (with Westelcom) are a model for
public/private cooperation in the development of the Authority’s
Open Access Telecom Network.” States
DANC’s Tom Sauter when referring to their work with Westelcom.
Westelcom prides itself on its “Customer First” focused
business plan and is looking forward to working closely with DANC and
other partners to create competitive opportunities for the delivery of
advanced technology to our rural counties.
"I want to congratulate them today", said Senator James W.
Wright, "Today we
begin the partnership of the public and private sector".
The
future of the area looks bright with the help and cooperation of DANC,
NNYATA, Westelcom and others. DANC
is further looking to upgrade the fiber systems in the North Country
while the NNYATA continues to enroll local governments, not-for-profit
institutions and small businesses in their Alliance program.
Westelcom continues to develop and improve cutting edge, and
cost saving, solutions including: Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP),
Wireless broadband, and Wi-Fi Hot Spots, among others.
It is the hope of Westelcom that their technological
innovations and contributions to the area will help nurture area
businesses while further enticing new businesses to relocate in our
region.
