HOW TO MEASURE YOUR DOG?

Now not every dog is going to like this, so……….(we like to bribe ours with cookies, ham etc)

Equipment:

  • Flexible sewing tape measure OR a piece of string and a ruler/regular tape measure
  • 5 minutes (you may want to pick a "down" time if yours is edgy )
  • Patience!

Measurements

Record these right on the brochure provided, or download a brochure (Office 97 format. Others?):

  1. Start at middle of shoulders. Measure distance up neck to where collar sites (say  2/3 way towards the head). This is distance A.
  2. Start at middle of shoulders blades. Measure distance to base of tail. This is distance B

Note 1: "A" + "B" = total length from collar to base of tail

  1. Start just behind the front leg. Measure girth (Around) around chest. This is distance C
  2. Measure girth (Around) of  middle of stomach . This is D
  3. Measure the girth (Around) of middle neck region . This is E
  4. Measure width of shoulder to shoulder width from in the front of the dog. This is F
  5. Measure distance along chest between legs(thickest to thickest part). This is G.

Note2: Please Measure H1 and H2 at the same location, behind the front leg.

  1. Measure height from the bottom of chest at  front shoulder H1
  2. Measure height from floor to top of the front shoulder along back  H2

NOTE: Please measure both H1 and H2 at front shoulders, not at rear.

  • Don’t measure coat too snugly. I usually add a bit onto ensure fit. If your dog has a heavy coat compress it gently while taking measurements. All done!!
