Network Engineer

Location:  Watertown, Plattsburgh or Syracuse

The Network Engineer has the responsibility of setting up network environments by implementing configuration, documentation, and enforcing system standards; operating and maintaining all types of legacy and next generation local and toll switching technology; provisioning and troubleshooting voice services: Hosted PBX, SIP, and analog voice.  Responsibilities also include providing training and guidance to Network Administrators and Technicians; monitoring performance, troubleshoot network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, collaborating with Senior Network Engineers & Architects on network optimization; provide pre-sales Engineering support for customer solutions; provide installation support for customer solutions; participate in a 24×7 on-call rotation; support Network Administrators, Network Operations Center Technicians and Administrators with escalated troubles; develop network documentation, Methods of Procedure, Standard Operating Procedures and schedules as required.  This position will require approximately 25% of regional travel.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and six plus years of relevant work experience or ten or more years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with VoIP, SIP, PRI, and analog voice
  • Experience with Central Office Switching, translations experience preferred
  • Experience with troubleshooting dynamic routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF. Experience with MPLS is preferred
  • Experience with system and network virtualization using VMware
  • Experience with router platforms – Juniper and Cisco
  • Knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, QoS, Multicast, MPLS, L3VPN, L2VPN, and Traffic Engineering using BGP and MPLS-TE
  • Knowledge of IP Routing Protocols (ISIS, OSPF, BGP)
  • Knowledge of Ethernet Switching technologies and Protocols
  • Understanding of Active Ethernet and FTTx
  • CCNP, JNCIS or similar level industry certification preferred

Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician (Westelcom) – Part-time

Location:  Watertown

This is an entry level position in our Network Operations Center.  Hours are variable throughout a Monday through Friday work week.  Duties include, but are not limited to, answering inbound calls and creating new, or updating existing trouble tickets via an online customer management system.  Training is provided on the job.  Typing skills, attention to detail, ability to work with a team and an interest in Information Technology are preferred.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Computer and networking skills in a business environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and multi task
  • Four years’ experience in the telecommunications/IT field preferred
  • Server and  database experience preferred
  • Fiber optic services experience preferred
  • Network + (CompTIA), Cisco & Microsoft Certifications preferred

Communications Technician IA (Westelcom)

Location:  Watertown

The Communications Technician is responsible for installing and maintaining underground and aerial communication voice data cables.  This includes installation, repair, and support of voice, data, and networking services. Monitoring of a regional network and responding to customer inquiries.   The Communications Technician is also responsible for assisting the Network Administrators and Engineers with maintenance of the Network Operations.  This position includes provisioning of new services and responding to service requests and escalated customer troubles.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
  • Eligibility to work independently and multi task
  • Ability to work 18 feet or higher above ground
  • Ability to distinguish between colored wires
  • Must be able to periodically work out of town, after hours or respond to weekend call outs
  • Computer and networking skills in a business environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CDL license preferred
  • Bucket/Line truck certification preferred
  • Pole Climbing certification preferred
  • College degree in Computer Science / Telecommunications / Networking preferred
  • Work experience in the telecommunications/IT field preferred
